The Land Rover Discovery was first released as a three door estate with 7 seat capacity in 1989 and as such was one of the first "people carriers" manufactured and available in the UK; which just happened to have permanent four wheel drive! While the Discovery quickly earned a reputation as "unstoppable" it also led to a new genre of versatile and family orientated 4x4 vehicles. Nonetheless the Discovery remains peerless equally at home in the city streets or mudplugging in the countryside, evolving with five doors and gaining in refinement to fill the niche below the Range Rover. The final iteration of the "original shape" Discovery being the Discovery 2 featured above.
Our 2002 Land Rover Discovery was acquired in early December 2012 from Brooklyn 4x4, Southampton. The Oslo Blue metallic bodywork and matching cloth interior are in very good condition and as a GS model the car is well equipped with alloys, 7 seats (including the versatility of 2 fold away seats or extra storage), climate control, twin sunroofs, tow bar and optional automatic gearbox. On acquisition the chassis, underbody and box sections have been extensively rustproofed. Tyres are the excellent General A/T All Terrain tyres. The auto box shifts smoothly while the air suspended ride is very comfortable.
This Discovery remains true to the original 4x4 people carrier ultimately combining both mechanical and electronic sophistication; first class load carrying capability allied to the torquey TD5 turbo diesel engine, autobox, hill descent control and rear air suspension. The Land Rover is a very good example of the last of the, dare we say, iconic Discovery’s; a brilliant Land Rover drive.
