Three glorious days, three iconic classic cars and over 300 enthusiasts at the New Forest Show. While the majority of enquiries come via the internet from as far away as Canada, China and Australia this was a great opportunity to meet like minded enthusiasts face to face and promote classic car hire generally and Icon Classic Car in particular.
The MGB Roadster, Mini Cooper Monte Carlo and Triumph TR6 were the stars of the Show with the Range Rover Classic parked up in the exhibitor car park on trailer duties also much admired. The Triumph TR6 won against the MGB in the race to put up the roof and the Mini won the hearts and minds of the children - who ignored the other cars! Opening the bonnet of the MGB attracted those interested in the mechanical side while the fit and finish of the TR6 was highly praised.
We handed out over 300 brochures normally after a short chat with many people expressing interest in hiring a car sometime in the future. The majority being local or visitors from within a 25 mile radius of the Show. Mission accomplished!
On a personal note the highlight for me was taking the TR6 from the workshop early one morning via the Forest and Lyndhurst to the showground at New Park, Brockenhurst. Cool morning breeze, wind in the hair, roar from the engine, bark from the exhaust and the road to myself. Heaven on earth!
Many thanks to Martin of Classic MG Services for replacing the MGB fuel pump at short notice, Enginuity for the preparation of the TR6 and Rex Paterson for maintaining the Mini Cooper.
We look forward to a return to the Show next year. In the meantime, if you want to enjoy driving one of the cars you know where to find us!
