While the cars are snuggled away for most of the Winter there is a hive of activity going on behind the scenes with full and partial services, MoT’s and other refurbishment works together and occasional trips out to keep the cars in full working order.
The Triumph TR6 has benefitted from a suspension rebuild. Triumph Stag has had the hood frame adjusted to ensure effective operation. The MGB GT Jubilee has had a new starter motor and replacement column stalk overdrive switch while the MGB Roadster underbody has been carefully coated with Waxoyl. The Range Rover Classic has a replacement stepper motor to help maintain idle speed and the Land Rover Discovery a new exhaust manifold to cure a slight blow. Apart from the mechanical and electrical remedies we have also used plenty of elbow grease with much washing, cleaning, polishing and waxing to the paintwork and exterior chrome and trim.
Changes to the fleet include the imminent arrival of an immaculate Mini Cooper Spi from the last year of production to replace the Mini Cooper Monte Carlo which unfortunately was accident damaged and taken off the road. There is also the possibility of adding a very special low mileage Range Rover Classic Vogue SE with all the bells and whistles.
2014 was a very successful year for Icon Classic Car Racing with a second place overall in the Caterham Tracksport championship with 10 podiums, two pole positions and four fastest laps including my first race win at Silverstone at the end of the season. The Caterham is again transformed for 2015 into a “Supersport” with a 10% hike in power to 140 bhp and a limited slip diff. All eyes will be on me to see whether I can add to the silverware!
After successfully competing in the inaugural Ginetta GRDC championship we also hope to return to the grid for GRDC+ and race alongside the Ginetta GT5 Challenge 2015 series and maybe get the chance to race at Spa. Plus the opportunity to join Ginetta for the road trip to the Le Mans 24 hours. Exciting times ahead.
Whether it is a classic car with sporting character and touring in mind, or seminal off road looks and ability or indeed an out and out track day experience we have it covered. All the hard work is done and now is the time for you to enjoy what is on offer.
