FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q1: How do I hire a vehicle from Icon Classic Car?
A1: You hire a vehicle by either sending us a “Hiring Enquiry” about your chosen vehicle via our “Contact” page or by enquiring directly by telephone on 07399 966092. We will respond to you and confirm availability and cost and if you chose to proceed with a booking we will take your credit/debit card details to collect the hire charge for the period of hire. This completes the booking process and ensures the reservation of the hire vehicle for you. On the day of hire you complete the hire agreement and insurance proposal in person at Icon Classic Car, subject to driver licence and personal identity checks and payment of the insurance and security deposit corresponding to the vehicle.
Q2: What happens if there is a problem with my driving licence or identity check?
A2: If there is a problem with your driving licence or identity check then you will not be able to take the vehicle as you will not comply with the insurance requirements and as a result you will forfeit your booking fee. It is therefore very important to make sure that you will be able to comply with all the requirements at the time of the booking.
Q3: What happens if I return the hire car damaged?
A3: If the hire car is returned damaged in any way the insurance and security deposit is retained until the full cost of the repair is known. If a refund is then due it is be paid to you via bank transfer by the Company.
Q4: Where can I leave my car when I hire an Icon Classic Car?
A4: Parking is available at no extra charge at the customers and/or owner’s risk. Icon Classic Car is located in a secure compound with an exterior hard standing area for customers who choose to leave their cars at their own risk when they hire an Icon Classic Car.
Q5: What happens if on the day I booked my Icon Classic Car the weather is terrible?
A5: Icon Classic Cars, at its sole discretion, may cancel a booking due to adverse weather conditions. If this occurs the pre-paid booking charge will be fully refunded via bank transfer. In such circumstances the company will endeavour to give at least 24 hours notice in writing (email or SMS text message) and/or by telephone. We deliberately choose not to hire out our classic cars during the Winter months and/or when there is a likelihood of salt on the road and we are just as interested as you that you have an enjoyable experience. This policy does not normally apply to cars with a hard top (e.g. Mini Cooper, Range Rover) only convertibles.
Q6: What happens if I cancel my prepaid booking?
A6: If you cancel your pre-paid booking you will forfeit the pre-paid hire charges you have made. At the sole discretion of the Company where cancellation is made by giving at least 14 days notice the Company may issue Gift Vouchers to 50% of the value of the original booking.
Q7: How long is a gift voucher valid for?
A7: Gift vouchers are valid for two years from the date of issue and can be used to hire an Icon Classic Car subject to availability at the time the booking is made. It is important to remember that as a general policy our Classic Cars are not normally available for hire from 1 November to 28/29 February although this can vary and it is always worth asking if it is possible during this period.
Q8: Can I add an additional driver?
A8: Additional drivers can be added to the hire agreement up to a maximum of two additional drivers at an additional cost per driver per day of hire. Please refer to the Hire Charges and other terms of business.
Q9: How reliable are the Icon Classic Cars?
A9: Our Classic Cars are all older than 25 years and some were originally manufactured in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Consequently, they are not as reliable as a modern car. Notwithstanding this all our vehicles are maintained to a very high standard, benefit from an annual MoT and are regularly serviced by us and other reputable specialists. For your peace of mind our insurance cover includes RAC national breakdown recovery and return service to our Marchwood base.
Q10: What is the fuel and mileage policy that you apply to your cars?
A10: When cars are made available to customers the fuel tanks are normally full although the fuel gauge of a classic car may indicate lower than full. The fuel level indicator is recorded at the time of hire. When the car is returned to the Company the fuel tank should be full with the fuel gauge indicating the same level at the time of hire otherwise a fuel supplement will be levied. The hire charge includes 150 miles per day; 100 miles for same day return, and 75 miles for a half day with any additional mileage charged at £1 per mile supplement. This can be calculated by aggregation over a multiple day hire period and the supplement applied accordingly.
